OUR BELIEFS
WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT JESUS
We believe that Jesus Christ is God in human form, that He bears both human and divine natures and is fully God and fully man in one Person. We believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born to the virgin Mary, lived a life of sinless perfection, and suffered under Pontius Pilate. He was crucified on the cross, buried and raised from the dead. He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of God the Father, as our High Priest and Advocate.
WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT GOD
We believe in one God – holy, eternal, all-knowing, perfect, and sovereign over all things – who created all things and graciously proposed from the beginning of time to reconcile man to Himself and to make all things new for His own glory. He exists in three divine persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE BIBLE
We believe in the inspired word of God – that the holy scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, were spoken by God and recorded in the words of human authors. We believe that the Bible is without error in its original writings and that it represents God’s complete revealed will regarding salvation. We believe in the infallibility of the Scriptures, and that the Bible is the ultimate authority upon which all human knowledge and actions are to be judged. The Bible is to be believed, obeyed, and trusted in all matters of life.
THE WORK OF CHRIST
We believe in Jesus Christ as our representative and substitute – that the blood He shed on the cross was both necessary and sufficient, satisfying God’s justice and mercy toward man. Man finds salvation through Christ and Christ alone, in His atoning blood and victorious resurrection.
THE HUMAN CONDITION
We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His own Image and that they were tempted by Satan and fell into sin. Because of the sin of Adam, all human beings are sinners, both by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and subject to His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can man be redeemed and restored to good standing with God.
WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit as the Third Person of the Trinity who glorifies Jesus in all He does. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates sinners, and unites believers with Christ, sealing them with the promise of adoption into the family of God. He indwells, comforts, guides, teaches, and empowers believers to live a victorious, Christ-honoring life.
CHRIST’S RETURN
We believe in the personal and bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ at a time in the future that is unknown to all but God. The promise of His second coming is a great source of hope, encouragement, and expectation, which motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial love, and fervent mission.
CHRISTIAN LIVING
We believe that Christ followers are saved by grace through faith, that good works do not result in salvation but follow salvation in the lives of those who have been regenerated in Christ. Sanctification, like salvation, is also a result of faith. We are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves, showing compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. We are called to live holy lives – set apart to God, fully committed to Christ’s command to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.
THE CHURCH
We believe that the true church is comprised of all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith in Christ alone, unified by the Holy Spirit, and under the Headship of Christ. The true church is holy, universal, and apostolic, and is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances – baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly demonstrate the gospel message. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances encourage, confirm, and nourish the believer.
RESPONSE AND ETERNAL DESTINY
We believe that God calls all men to believe in Him, repenting of their sins and receiving Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe in the resurrection of the dead and in a final judgment where unbelievers will be condemned to eternal punishment in hell, based on their rejection of Christ’s offer of salvation. Believers will be united with Christ in eternal blessing and joy in the ushering in of a new heaven and earth, to the praise and glory of Christ.
